*NEWS!* LNR has part of our second CD recorded! (finally). It is a mix of bluegrass, swing, & country; both traditional and progressive, including some originals we've never had a chance to record. We are excited to have a CD coming that features our guitarist, George Ede, and fiddlin' Fred Fowler. Click here for some MP3 music samples.
LNR now has a MySpace page, here.
Since 1999, Late Night Radio, has been entertaining New England audiences with their mix of traditional & modern bluegrass, vintage country, and acoustic swing.
Diane Kordas brings the upright bass to the front of the band lineup with solid playing, smooth lead & harmony vocals, and superb song writing. Bob Kordas is an award winning banjo player & plays some incredible resophonic guitar, in addition to harmony vocals. George Ede contributes a country influence and his dazzling guitar playing to the band, along with lead & harmony vocals. Fred Fowler brings a strong traditional bluegrass flavor into the mix with his fiddle and vocals.
The band name recalls times when, late in the wee hours when stars shine and the moon is low, if you got that transistor radio turned just right, you could hear great old tunes that just aren’t played on pop airwaves...that is the music Late Night Radio plays.
Diane Kordas & Late Night Radio are members of the
NH State Council on the Arts Touring roster and the
New England Foundation for the Arts. This selection process involved a review of Late Night Radio's shows and customer relations, insuring that performances are up to their high standards. Reviews:
"...they play an amalgam of styles that can be best described as bluegrass swing with major jazz overtones. Their combination of excellent instrumentation and vocals made for very easy listening. The
arrangements of old blues, bluegrass and swing jazz standards revived tunes written before the rock era."
Joe LaJeunesse, Hippo Press, Manchester, NH.
"Your performance at the Green Rooster was Exceptional -- very upbeat to sultry, always keeping
the excitement vibes buzzing. The audience was totally with you, wherever you wanted to take them. It was truly great the way you captivated all these new listeners (now fans) when they didn't know what to expect. People left satisfied that they heard good music and experienced that thrill that something very human just happened -- kind of like we feel when we get in a good jam session!"
Chuck Demers, Green Rooster Coffeehouse, Worcester, MA
" Midnight Airwaves is a nice showcase of the group's versatility. Bassist Diane Kordas sings lead on most of the tunes, and the disc has an easy going, backporch feel that evokes a laid-back jam among friends."
Noah Schaffer, Worcester Magazine
"Diane Kordas handles the bulk of the lead vocals giving the proceedings a sultry sensation. ... [The CD] is a pleasant collage of melodies that will set feet to tapping to these infectious rhythms."
Les McIntyre, Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine
“A diverse, fun band.”
George Roberts, Smith Meeting House Bluegrass Festival
Your performance was so much fun, everyone had a great time! We’ll have you back for our summer concert series!”
Kathy Ewing, Goffstown Main Street
George Ede
"Mr. Guitar"
Guitar and Vocals
From Worcester MA, now resides and owns Liberty Music Store in Framingham. George has been playing many styles of guitar all his life, from rock and roll, to hillbilly, and country bands. Starting with "The Mountaineers", a family hillbilly band, they performed for square dances and traveled extensively with the U.S.O. He teaches guitar, banjo, dobro, bass, mandolin, drums and lap steel as well. His creative, clean, fast lead and rhythm work reflects bluegrass, country, rock, and swing influences; he has returned to roots and Americana, specializing in bluegrass, country and swing. His jokes aren't too bad either.
Diane Kordas
Acoustic Upright Bass
and Vocals
As a child, her family harmonized on bluegrass songs that her mother learned as a child growing up in Georgia. Cross that with the influence of her father's clarinet playing and Benny Goodman records, and you have an appreciation for the precursors to contemporary music. She would "borrow" her older brother's electric guitar and teach herself with the Bob Dylan song book. When he moved out, she was
given a cheap guitar by her parents, who thought it unlady-like for a girl to play a guitar seriously. This strengthened her resolve to pursue music the next chance she got.
Bob Kordas
Resophonic Guitar
and Banjo
Bob started playing his great grandfather's banjo when he was 20 years old. An early appreciation for traditional music led to organizing the Weare Fiddle & Banjo Contest for 8 years. Bob has also competed at the Lowell Fiddle and Banjo Contest, placing twice. For the past several years, he has been playing the resophonic guitar also, commonly known as a Dobro or steel guitar.
Fred Fowler
Fiddle, Acoustic Guitar
and Vocals
Fred Fowler, aka, Fiddlin’ Fred, hails from Temple, NH. He started playing music as a child, including horn, piano, violin, guitar and mandolin. Classical, Old Country, and Bluegrass are his favorite musical styles. He has been playing at festivals and bluegrass jams in recent years, and has been playing with LNR since December 2006.
